Description:
A stereograph card of the "Hattie May". On the side of the front of picture: "International Stereoscopic View Co". On the opposite side on the front of picture: "New York City, U.S.A." The date on the back of picture: "c1880" The "Hattie May" was the first stern wheel steamer on Lake Minnetonka. She made her first trip on May 3rd, 1878 with regular service starting on May 20. She was built by Maurice J. Godfrey for Captain Charles May and had the capacity for 350—500 passengers. She was sold in 1881 to Charles A Zimmerman as the 'nexus' of the Lake Minnetonka Navigation Company. From 1992— 1896 the Navigation Company decommisssioned her due to declining number of tourists and in 1896 was sold to the Great Northern Railway and subsequently to Captain John R. Johnson. It was rechristened the "Tonka"in 1897. As the "Tonka" she was destroyed by fire in 1900. ADOOB by Scott McGinnis.
