Description:
The "Nautilus" circa 1881.She was built by Captain H. D. Parmelee for Alpheus B. Stickney superintendent of the Saint Paul, Stillwater & Taylors Falls Railroad. She was originally known as the "Lulu" in honor of Stickney's daughter. She cruised the St. Croix River before being put on Lake Elmo for 1879 and 1880. She was brought to Lake Minnetonka in 1880 by Stickney when he was made Superintendent of Construction of the Saint Paul, Minneapolis & Manitoba Railway Company by James J. Hill and renamed "Nautilus". She was placed under the guidance of Charles A. Zimmerman to accomodate the passengers of the railway "Manitoba" and became the first steamboat of the Lake Minnetonka Navigation Company. In 1882 it was sold to Charles H. Parmelee and sent to the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers to transport offiecers of Fort Snelling to St. Paul. She was purchased by Captain Ebenzer B. West in 1886 and sent to MInneapolis to be overhauled and rebuilt. In 1886 she passed through Excelsior on her way to Lake Kampeska near Watertown, South Dakota and was renamed the "City of Watertown". ADOOB by Scott McGinnis.
