Description:
Two couples in a sailboat just off the dock at camp on Robinson's Bay. The boat was Gene Hazeltine's. Robinson's Bay was named for Alfred B. Robinson one of the orginal landowners in Deephaven. He was born in Vermont in 1815. After serving in the US Regular Infantry in several states he was ordered to Fort Snelling in 1842 where he stayed until he was discharged three years later. In 1853 Alfred and his wife were living in 'Arlington Heights' (Wayzata) when William Chowen came for Mrs. Robinson to help his sister through child birth. The twin boys were the first white babies in the area. Two years later the Robinsons were farming on 134 acres in Deephaven beside the bay named for them. Even though living at Robinson's Bay in 1859, Alfred was a member of the Wayzata Town Board, serving as Justice of the Peace Alfred joined the Third Minnesota Volunteers in 1861 and was discharged when wounded. He enlisted again in the Sixth Minnesota Volunteers until mustered out in 1865. When not in service he was very active in civic affairs of Minnetonka Township.
