Description:
Phipps House. This is a sketch (ink drawing) of the Phipps House. House is located in Maplewood. In 1869 Samuel Gale built a summer cottage in Maplewood just south of Breezy Point. It was the first cottage built on Lake Minnetonka for summer use only. Soon he enlarged it and called the place 'Maplewood Inn'. In 1880 he sold it and it was operated by several people before, in 1884, William Phipps bought it and ran it thru the 1890's. It was destroyed by fire in 1904. ("Lake Minnetonka Historic Hotels")
