Description:
People and boats at the Chapman House docks, Lake Minnetonka, Mound, MN. From right to left: 'Acte' owned by Charles Cheeley, 'Hebe' owned by Johnson ( Frank Perkins on boat), 'Minnetonka' owned by Lake Minnetonka Navigation Co. The Chapman House was located at the extreme upper end of Cook's Bay in the Upper Lake. It was owned by the Chapman brothers, Sumner and Seymour. The hotel offered a fleet of rowboats along with guides and fishing equipment for those guests who enjoyed fishing. The hotel was partially destroyed by fire in 1892. In 1906 Mrs. John Chapman had a large pavilion built on the premises for her son Cecil. It was first called the 'Casino' and later became known as the 'Surfside'.
