Description:
2 (same) postcards of the Hotel Del Otero, G.F. Hopkins & Co., Prop., Spring Park Minnetonka; No. 28. Opened by James J. Hill in 1885. He built his hotels to attract riders on his Great Northern Railroad. Located on a high hill overlooking Spring Park Bay may have inspired its name "Del Otero" Spanish for 'on a knoll or hill'. Hill sold it in 1906 to George F. Hopkins and Company. Hopkins also managed the lakeshore dancing pavilion and scheduled games in the hotel ball park too. In 1918 Adam King became the proprietor, its casino, ball park and picnic grounds. He also bought four guest cottages overlooking the lake. The hotel burned in 1945 with one section burning to the ground and one section to the first floor. It was the last of the big hotels at Lake Minnetonka and met its end at the height of a prosperous season. ( "Lake Minnetonka's Historic Hotels")
