Description:
Woman sitting on the steps of 366 Water Street. Loretta Broderich O'Gorman holding daughter Mary Elizabeth. In 1887 Mr. H.B. McConnell, principal of the school, purchased the lot on the corner of Water and George Street opposite the Clark House from Mr. Beeman. The house was built in 1902 by Frank Lyman. Aug. 28, 1903 'Minnetonka Journal' Lyman ran an ad for selling "6 room cottage". Sept.25, 1903 Mr. H.B. Elliot purchased the Lyman residence. According to the 'Minnetonka Journal' on Oct. 2, 1903 A.J. Pegler moved into the Frank J. Lyman house recently purchased by H.B. Elliot. A. Pegler was a sports writer for the old 'Minneapolis Journal' and later switched to the 'Daily News'. His son Westbrooke "Bud" Pegler was a nationally known columnist once known as "the angry man of journalism". He was known for his campaign against union racketeers in 1941 and won a Pulitzer Prize for his investigation. This house was known as the "Scheid"s" house — Lawrence Scheid resided in the home for over 50 years. Lawrence died in 1979. Gray Gardens, a floral business owned by Lois Kruger, opened in 1984 and is still in business being operated by her son Matt. The fretwork piece visible in picture was found in the attic and reapplied to house in 1982. This picture appears to be from an album as there is part of an album page stuck to the back.
