Drawing of the Hotel St. Louis, Deephaven MN. Hotel St. Louis was the first of Lake Minnetonka's five largest hotels. It opened in 1879 the same year the Lake Park Hotel was being built. It overlooked Carson's Bay and St. Louis Bay. In he 1890's it began hosting the Northwest Lawn Tennis Association's annual tournaments. Because business was so poor around the turn of the century the hotel was demolishedin 1907. The following year Walter W. Douglas of Quaker Oats fame, began building his estate on the site of the Hotel St. Louis. ("Lake Minnetonka's Historic Hotels").
